چکیده

In the context of climate change, sowing date and cultivar choice can influence productivity sorghum, especially where production is constrained by low soil fertility early terminal drought across challenging agro-ecologies north-eastern Nigeria. Planting within an optimal window to fit cultivar’s maturity length critical for maximizing/increasing crop yield following appropriate climate-smart management practices. this study, APSIM model was calibrated validated simulate growth sorghum cultivars with differing maturing periods sown varying planting time windows under improved agricultural The run long-term performance from 1985 2010 determine (PWs) most suitable different agro-ecological zones (AEZs). model, observed farm-level grain yield, satisfactory all dates cropping systems. predicted a lower mean bias error (MBE), either positive or negative, sole system in July month compared June August months. seasonal simulations sites AEZs suggested increased yields when using adapted based on average threshold ≥1500 kgha−1 against national 1160 kgha−1. Sudan Savanna (SS), optimum PWs ranged 25 May 30 CSR01 Samsorg-44, while could be extended 10 ICSV400 Improved Deko. Northern Guinea (NGS) Southern (SGS), except SK5912, which June. NGS zone, were found cultivation exception SK5912. Meanwhile, SGS simulated below (1500 kgha−1) explained sandy very there. It concluded that farm decisions plant alongside use would serve as key adaptation strategies increasing three AEZs.

Variability in tannin content, chemistry and activity in a diverse group of tannin containing sorghum cultivars.

BACKGROUND Tannins are large polyphenolic polymers and are known to bind proteins, limiting their digestibility, but are also excellent antioxidants. Numerous studies investigating the functional properties of sorghum tannin have been conducted by comparing grain samples from different sorghum lines without considering the other intrinsic characteristics of the grain. The purpose of this study ...

Diverse Ecologies - Interdisciplinary Development for Cultural Education

We present a case study outlining development efforts towards an interface ecology to be deployed in museums. We argue that the problem at hand calls for a highly interdisciplinary design process. Furthermore, system design in the domain of cultural education poses a unique set of challenges. At the same time few existing design methodologies are suitable for addressing this special environment...
